One of the highlighted performances in Istanbul Marathon, displayed by Ummu Kiraz last weekend. She ran PB 2:32:52 in two-continent course at Istanbul Marathon, only six days before her stunning victory in Omer Besim XC Race.
Named after Turkish track and field pioneer and 1928 Olympian Omer Besim Kosalay, the cross-country race held in Kazlicesme course in Zeytinburnu district. In elite women's race, Ummu Kiraz, who is affiliated with Kasimpasa Sports Club, clocked 19:53 in 6-km course ahead of her team-mate Seyran Adanir.
"Kırmızı Eşofman" (red track suit) race, which is the main event of the program dedicated to Omer Besim, contested with a classy 60-men group. Individual contestant Ramazan Ozdemir outclassed all of his rivals in final strech and clinched victory by 29:46 clocking over 10 kilometres.
Junior races of the competition won by two young prospects of Turkish middle-distances, Suleyman Bekmezci and Asli Arik.
